 Federal Bank to re-appoint Shyam Srinivasan 
• Federal Bank has received approval from the RBI to re-appoint Shyam Srinivasan as its MD and CEO for three years.

• Srinivasan took charge as MD and CEO of the lender on September 23, 2010.

• He had joined Federal Bank with the experience of over 20 years with leading multinational banks in India, Middle East and South East Asia.
Assam govt to create new department 
• The Assam govt has decided to create a new department to protect the culture and practices of people belonging to tribal and other indigenous communities.

• It would ensure that the state's indigenous population gets to preserve their faith and traditions, while also providing requisite support to them.

• It will be an independent dept, which will solely focus on faith and culture preservation.
World Population Day: 11 July 
• Every year on July 11, the world observes World Population Day.

• The theme for 2021 is “Rights and Choices are the Answer: Whether baby boom or bust, the solution to shifting fertility rates lies in prioritising all people’s reproductive health and rights."

• India has the world’s second-largest populace after China.
Argentina beat Brazil to win Copa America 
• Lionel Messi won his first trophy with his national team as Angel Di Maria's goal gave Argentina a 1-0 win over hosts Brazil in the Copa America final on 10 July 2021.

• The victory at Rio de Janeiro's Maracana stadium ended Argentina's 28-year wait for a major trophy.

• Messi has won the FIFA World Player of the Year a record six times and is widely considered one of the greatest players.

Twitter appoints Vinay Prakash as RGO 
• Twitter India has appointed Vinay Prakash as Resident Grievance Officer for India.

• The Resident Grievance Officer can be contacted by email on: grievance-officer-in@twitter.com.

• The company has also hired a resident of India as its interim compliance officer, effective 6 July 2021, and has communicated the development to the Ministry of Information Technology.

GI-certified Fazil mango shipped to Bahrain 
• India has expanded its footprint of mango exports to newer countries.

• A consignment of Geographical Identification (GI) certified Fazil mango variety sourced from the Malda district of West Bengal was exported to Bahrain on 10  July 2021.

• This shipment comes a few days after a mango promotion programme was held at Doha, Qatar where nine varieties of mangoes were displayed.

KVIC secures trademark registrations in Bhutan 
• The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has secured trademark registrations in Bhutan, UAE, and Mexico.

• Apart from these countries, KVIC’s trademark applications are pending in 40 countries across the world that include the USA, Sri Lanka, etc.

• So far, it was having registrations for the word mark “KHADI” in six countries namely Germany, UK, Australia, Russia, China, and the EU.

215th anniversary of Sepoy Clash commemorated 
• The 215th anniversary of the Sepoy Clash was commemorated at Vellore Fort on 10 July 2021.

• In the year 1806, on the 10th of July, Indian sepoys protested against the British Raj and clashed with them.

• Some British soldiers and 900 Indian soldiers were killed in retaliation.

• This was the first instance that gave rise to Sepoy mutiny in India.

Projects of Srinagar Smart City inaugurated 
• Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on 10 July 2021, e-inaugurated multiple projects of Srinagar Smart City.

• The projects include Variable Message Displays (VMDs) installed across the city and the new Surface Car Parking at Residency Road.

• He also launched the ‘mySrinagar’ mobile app, which will be a one-stop solution catering to the needs of citizens and tourists in Srinagar.

ICCR to set up a Bangabandhu Chair at DU 
• The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) will set up a ‘Bangabandhu Chair’ at Delhi University.

• The chair will focus on a better understanding of developments in Bangladesh which is one of India’s most important neighbours.

• The MoU for the establishment of the Chair will be signed on 12th July 2021.

• It will be for a duration of 5 academic years.

• Delhi BJP Chief Adesh Gupta has launched NAMO app drive for its wider reach to the people who want to convey their issues or problems directly to Prime Minister Narender Modi.

• Initially, the target is to reach 10 lakh people through this app.

• It is a smooth and easy app through which people can get to know about the works and welfare policies of the Modi government.

Ashleigh Barty wins maiden Wimbledon title 
• Ashleigh Barty has become the first Australian woman to win a single's Wimbledon title in 41 years.

• The World No. 1 defeated Czech Republic's Karolina Pliskova in the Wimbledon 2021 final 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3 to win her first Wimbledon trophy.

• In the men’s singles, the match was played between Novak Djokovic and Italy’s Matteo Berrettini on 11 July 2021.

EU hits its target of delivering vaccines 
• The European Union has hit its target of delivering enough coronavirus vaccines to cover 70 percent of the adult population.

• The EU joint vaccine purchasing scheme, run by von der Leyen’s European Commission, has delivered 330 million BioNTech-Pfizer shots, 100 million AstraZeneca, 50 million from Moderna, and 20 million Johnson & Johnson shots.

CPWD to celebrate 167th year of service 
• Central Public Works Department (CPWD) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, will celebrate the 167th year of its glorious service to the nation on 12th July 2021.

• During the inaugural function, four technical publications including CPWD Floral Tableaux : A Treasure Collection, will be released.

• CPWD was founded in 1854 by James Brown-Ramsay, the first Marquess of Dalhousie.


Dr P K Warner passes away

. Dr P K Warner, who popularised Ayurveda, passed away in July 2021.
. Decorated with the country's third and fourth highest civilian awards -Padma Bhushan in 2010
and Padma Shri in 1999, Warner was also a freedom fighter.
. Warner is known to have been instrumental in modernising the packaging of Ayurveda
medicines, which were earlier available in the forms of kashayam and choornam.

'Terrace Garden: Midde Thota' book released 

 • Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu received the first copy of the English translation of Thummeti Raghothama Reddy’s book- Terrace Garden: Midde Thota, on 10 July 2021.
• The book, originally written in Telugu, chronicles Mr Reddy’s successful journey of developing a fruitful terrace garden at Naarapalle, Hyderabad.

• National Lok Adalat organized across J&K 
• National Lok Adalat was organized across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on 10 July 2021 for speedy and amicable settlement of cases.

• It was organized under the patronage of Justice Pankaj Mithal, Chief Justice, High Court of J&K and Ladakh.

• Two Benches were constituted to take up the claim cases arising out of the Motor Accidents and Workmen Compensation Act of various insurance companies.

97 lakh households get tap water supply 
• Jal Jeevan Mission has provided tap water supply to more than 97 lakh households in 61 Japanese Encephalitis – Acute Encephalitis Syndrome affected districts.

• The tap water has been supplied to these priority districts in a short span of 22 months.

• Japanese Encephalitis – Acute Encephalitis Syndrome mostly affects children and young adults which can lead to morbidity and mortality.
