  चक्रवात यास (Cyclone Yaas) भारत मौसम विज्ञान विभाग (IMD) द्वारा 22 मई के आसपास  उत्तरी अंडमान सागर और उसके निकटवर्ती पूर्व-मध्य बंगाल की खाड़ी  के ऊपर एक  निम्न दाब का क्षेत्र  निर्मित होने की जानकारी दी गई है। 24 मई तक, इस निम्नदाब क्षेत्र के तीव्र होकर एक चक्रवाती तूफान में बदलने की संभावना है। इस तूफ़ान को ‘चक्रवात यास’  (Cyclone Yaas)  नाम दिया गया है। इसका नामकरण: ‘यास’ नाम का सुझाव ‘ओमान’ द्वारा दिया गया था और इसका नामकरण एक अच्छी सुगंध वाले ‘वृक्ष’ के ऊपर किया गया है, तथा इसका अर्थ अंग्रेजी भाषा के ‘जैस्मीन’ शब्द के समान होता है। अगले चक्रवात – यास के बाद – का नाम ‘ गुलाब ’ रखा जा सकता है, जिसे पाकिस्तान द्वारा सुझाया गया है। चक्रवातों का निर्माण किस प्रकार होता है? उष्णकटिबंधीय क्षेत्रों में  समुद्रीय जल के ऊपर  चक्रवातों का निर्माण होता है। इन क्षेत्रों में सौर-प्रकाश की मात्रा सर्वाधिक होती है, जिसके परिणामस्वरूप स्थलीय  और जलीय भागों की ऊपरी सतह गर्म हो जाती हैं। सतह के गर्म होने के कारण, समुद्र के ऊपर स्थित उष्ण-आर्द्र वायु ...
