The most prominent C-level executive awards have crowned Kishore Kumar Yedam as ‘World CEO Winner of the Year 2021’.The World CEO Rankings (TWCR) are online awards to acknowledge the best CEOs worldwide through the strict nomination process and three-month-long voting season.Kishore Kumar Yedem is the CEO & MD of FSS.FSS is a Software Development and Services Company, based in Hyderabad.


Rupa Gurunath steps down as Tamil Nadu Cricket Association president


Rupa Gurunath has stepped down from the post of president of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) on Dec 31, 2021.Rupa had taken over as the TNCA president in Sep,2019, becoming the 1st woman to head a state cricket association in India.During her tenure, TNCA hosted two Test matches against England, IPL and the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).


CCI gives its nod for Worldone’s acquisition of Jindal Power


The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has given its nod for Worldone’s acquisition of a 96.42 per cent stake in Jindal Power Limited (JPL) from Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) on 31 Dec 2021.JPL is primarily engaged in the business of generating thermal power by using coal as a fuel source.Worldone will pay a consideration of ₹7,401 crores to JSPL for the acquisition.


SBI Card partners with Paytm for tokenising cards


Paytm partnered with SBI Cards, the credit card arm of SBI – to enable cardholders to tokenise their cards on devices and make payments through Paytm.SBI Card portfolio enabled on Paytm, will be available on Android NFC devices.SBI Cards issued in India only is enabled on the Paytm network.Customers may transact using his SBI Card through Paytm Network in international locations.

China Launches Five-Year Plan To Become Global Robotics Hub


China has proposed a five-year strategy to help it achieve its goal of becoming a worldwide robotics innovation centre by 2025.China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced that the operating income from the country’s robotics industry is expected to expand by an average of 20 percent by 2025.As per the 2021 World Robot Report, South Korea is the most automated country.


AU Small Finance Bank appoints H R Khan as Additional Director


AU Small Finance Bank has appointed Harun Rashid Khan as Non-Executive Independent Director (Additional Director) on the Board, on 28 Dec 2021.Khan is a former Deputy Governor and the Executive Director at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).AU started its banking operations in April 2017 and as of December 30, 2021, it has established operations across 811 banking touchpoints.

The Sahitya Akademi, on 30 Dec 2021, announced its awards for 2021 for literary works in 20 languages, including novels in Assamese and English.In English, Author Namita Gokhale won the award for her book Things to Leave Behind.This year, 7 books of poetry, five short stories, two plays, one each of biography, autobiography, criticism and epic poetry have been chosen for the award.

Israel signs deal to buy $2 billion in U.S. helicopters, tankers


Israel has signed a deal of $2 billion with the United States to buy 12 Lockheed Martin Corp CH-53K helicopters and two Boeing Co KC-46 refuelling planes.As per Israel’s Defence Minister, a deal signed on December 30, is part of an upgrade of Israel’s air force capabilities and includes an option to buy six additional helicopters.The first helicopter is due to arrive in Israel in 2026.


Tech Mahindra to acquire 100% stake in Allyis India, Green Investments


Tech Mahindra has approved a proposal for the acquisition of a 100% stake in Allyis India and Green Investments, for a total consideration of up to USD 125 million.Allyis India Pvt Ltd and Green Investments LLC, the holding company for Allyis Group, is headquartered in Seattle, USA.The acquisition is expected to support Tech Mahindra’s capabilities in digital experience solutions.

Reliance New Energy Solar acquires UK’s battery firm Faradion


Reliance New Energy Solar Ltd has signed definitive agreements to acquire UK-based sodium-ion battery technology company Faradion for an enterprise value of 100 million pounds.RNESL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), will acquire 100 per cent shareholding in Faradion Limited.Faradion is among the world’s leading battery technology companies.

Jammu and Kashmir-based alpine skier Arif Mohammed Khan has become the first Indian athlete to qualify for two different events of the Winter Olympics 2022.He secured an Olympics quota spot in the men’s giant slalom event, after booking his first Winter Olympics ticket in alpine skiing slalom category in Nov 2021.The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics are set to take place from February 4 to 20.


UNESCO, Sweden partner to establish Palestinian Virtual Museum


UNESCO, Sweden have partnered to establish the Palestinian Virtual Museum of Archaeological Objects.The museum is developed by Palestinian experts with tools to facilitate accessibility and foster an understanding of history through archaeology.This was implemented by UNESCO National Office for Palestine, Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Palestine, with financial support from Sweden.

Centre approves 3,063 crore additional assistance to six states


A High-Level Committee chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah has approved ₹3,063.21 crores of additional central assistance to six states under the National Disaster Response Fund.The six states that will get additional money are Assam, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.These states were affected by floods, landslides, and cyclones during 2021.

Centre approves ₹15,381.72 crores for MP under Jal Jeevan Mission


Drinking water supply schemes worth Rs 15,381.72 crore have been approved for Madhya Pradesh under the Jal Jeevan Mission at the State-level Scheme Sanctioning Committee (SLSSC) meeting.As many as 22 multi-village schemes were sanctioned to provide tap water connection to more than 1.09 crore rural population.The state plans to provide a tap water supply to all rural households by 2023.

SBI to acquire 9.95% stake in GIFT-IFSC-based Clearing Corporation


State Bank of India announced the acquisition of a 9.95% stake in India International Clearing Corporation (IICC) subject to a maximum investment of ₹34.03 crores.The Clearing Corporation is a GIFT City (Gandhinagar, Gujarat) based Market Infrastructure Institution (MII).The Corporation is the first international clearing corporation to be set up at Gujarat International Finance Tec-City.


LIC, GIC Re and New India systemically important insurers: IRDAI


Life Insurance Corporation of India, General Insurance Corporation of India and New India Assurance have been identified as Domestic Systemically Important Insurers (D-SIIs) for 2021-22 by IRDAI.D-SIIs are perceived as insurers that are ‘too big or too important to fail’ (TBTF).D-SIIs refer to insurers of such size whose failure would cause dislocation of the financial system.

Carrom player Rashmi Kumari wins her third Federation Cup


The two-time World Champion Rahmi Kumari has won her third Federation Cup title in Varanasi.Rashmi Kumari is the most accomplished woman carrom player in the country.It was her third Federation Cup trophy, after the earlier triumph in 2012 and 2010.Rashmi beat the reigning World Champion S. Appoorwa in the final.Rashmi has also won the World Cup twice, and four times SAARC champion.

RBI extends deadline for KYC in bank accounts till March 31, 2022


The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has extended the deadline for KYC in bank accounts till March 31, 2022, from December 31, 2021.In the Know Your Customer (KYC) requirement, a bank customer is required to submit his details which include PAN,  Aadhaar, passport, etc.A bank is required to undertake KYC compliance from its customers due to the Prevention of Money-Laundering Act, 2002.


S Africa’s Quinton de Kock announces retirement from Test cricket


South African wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock announced retirement from Test cricket.The announcement came after South Africa’s first Test match against India in Centurion, where India won by 113 runs.Quinton de Kock made his Test debut against Australia in Gqeberha in 2014.In 54 matches, he scored 3300 runs with a high score of 141 not-out, at an average of 38.82
