Indian Navy’s 1971 war veteran Vice Admiral S.H. Sarma dies
The Indian Navy’s 1971 Indo-Pak war veteran Vice Admiral S.H. Sarma died on January 3, 2022, at the age of 100.He was the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet during the 1971 war.He also served as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC in C) of the Eastern Naval Command.India had defeated Pakistan in the 1971 war leading to the creation of Bangladesh.
VP Naidu unveils statue of Dr. Ambedkar at Mahatma Gandhi University
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu unveiled a statue of Dr Ambedkar and inaugurated Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan and Chandrashekhar Azad Hostel at Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Wardha.He addressed the silver jubilee celebrations of the University on 4 Jan 2022.He emphasized that the New Education Policy follows the ‘Nai Talim’ of Mahatma Gandhi in terms of mother tongue.
PM Modi inaugurates several developmental projects in Imphal, Manipur
PM Modi inaugurated 13 projects worth around Rs 1,850 cr and laid the foundation stone of nine projects worth around Rs 2,950 cr in Imphal, Manipur on Jan 04, 2022.Prime Minister also inaugurated ₹280 cr worth ‘Water Transmission system of Thoubal Multi-purpose project’, which will provide drinking water supply to the Imphal city.He inaugurated the Steel Bridge built over the Barak River

Reliance’s arm acquires 25.90 per cent equity in SWREL
Reliance New Energy Solar Ltd (RNESL) has become Wilson Renewable Energy Ltd (SWREL) promoter after it paid a balance of Rs 1,583 crore for the acquisition of 25.90% equity in it.With this transaction, RNESL and other group firms together hold over 40% stake in SWREL.Reliance New Energy Solar Ltd. is a newly incorporated entity that does not offer any products or services in India.
Sushmita Dev in 31-member Panel to examine bill on legal marriage age
The parliamentary panel assigned to examine the bill to raise the legal age of marriage for women has only one woman MP Sushmita Dev out of 31 members.The Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill, was introduced in Lok Sabha in 2021 and referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Women.The bill seeks to increase the legal age of marriage for women from 18 to 21.
Germany takes over G7 presidency, to host this year summit
On 1 January 2022, Germany takes over the G7 Presidency.The G7 Summit is due to take place from 26 to 28 June 2022 in the Bavarian Alps.The G7, or “Group of Seven,” consists of the US, Canada, Japan, France, the UK, Italy and Germany.In June 2021 Summit, the G7 leaders agreed to distribute 2.3 billion vaccine doses.Germany is the second-largest donor in the COVAX vaccination alliance.
Exercise Milan 2022: India to host 46 nations, largest by Indian Navy
India has invited a total of 46 nations to participate in the multinational naval exercise ‘Milan’ in Visakhapatnam, scheduled from February 25, 2022.The theme of this edition of exercise Milan is camaraderie, cohesion and collaboration.In 2020, the exercise was cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak worldwide.The United States will be participating for the first time in this exercise.

Sarbanand Sonowal inaugurates Yoga academy in Hyderabad
The Union Ayush Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone for the Heartfulness International Yoga academy in Hyderabad on Jan 4, 22.The Academy offers Ayurvedic consultation, massage and therapeutic treatments along with a dormitory.The Heartfulness Academy (Shri Ram Chandra Mission) is registered with Yoga Certification Board as a Leading yoga Institution.
G Asok Kumar takes over as DG of National Mission for Clean Ganga
G Asok Kumar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Jal Shakti has taken over as new Director-General of National Mission for Clean Ganga, Ministry of Jal Shakti on Jan 04, 2022.He has also served as the Mission Director for National Water Mission.His work in “Jal Shakthi Abhiyan: Catch the Rain” campaign led to the sanction of over 9.5 lakh water conservation structures in the country.
Jharkhand Govt & ISB to work on to develop forest economy
The Government of Jharkhand collaborated with the Indian School of Business (ISB) to empower the state’s forest economy.The ISB team plans to pilot this approach in the Gumla district, before expanding to other districts with promising forest products.This initiative is a partnership between local communities as the custodians of forest resources and industry leaders.
India has achieved its highest-ever monthly exports of 37 billion USD
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said that India has achieved its highest-ever monthly exports of USD 37 billion in December 2021, registering a jump of 37 percent from December 2020.Uttar Pradesh is one of the best performing states in terms of the ‘One District, One Product’ scheme.The ODOP scheme by the UP government focuses on boosting the economy of the state.
Reserve Bank of India releases framework on offline digital payments
The Reserve Bank of India released a framework to enable small value digital payments in offline mode using cards, wallets, and mobile devices.As per the new rules payment system operators, will be able to allow offline payments in face-to-face mode only.Such payments that will happen without the use of the internet or the telecom network will be capped at ₹200 per transaction.
D Pradhan launches NEAT 3.0 to provide best-developed Ed-Tech solution
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched NEAT 3.0, a single platform to provide the best-developed ed-tech solutions and courses to students of the country.The minister also launched AICTE prescribed technical books in regional languages.NEAT stands for National Educational Alliance for Technology.12 lakh students have received free ed-tech course coupons of over ₹253 crores.
Vini Mahajan assumes charge as secretary in Jal Shakti Ministry
Vini Mahajan, IAS officer assumed the charge of Secretary in the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation.Prior to this, she was serving as Punjab Chief Secretary from 26th June 2020.Ms Mahajan served as Joint Secretary to the Prime Minister of India from 2007-2012, and earlier in 2004-05 as Director in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance.
Three-time Olympic triple jump winner Viktor Saneyev has passed away
Viktor Saneyev, a former multi-time Olympic champion in the triple jump, passed away in Australia’s Sydney on January 3.Saneyev was born in Georgia and won three Olympic gold medals in a row in Mexico City (1968), Munich (1972), and Montreal (1976) for the Soviet Union.In the 1980 Olympics, he claimed a silver medal.He also won European championships in the triple jump in 1969 and 1974.
ONGC appoints Alka Mittal as its first woman CMD
Energy major Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) on January 3 appointed Alka Mittal as its first woman Chairman & Managing Director (CMD).She replaced Subhash Kumar as CMD of ONGC.Alka Mittal became the second woman in the country to head an oil company after Nishi Vasudeva, who had created history in March 2014 who headed Hindustan Petroleum.ONGC headquarters is in New Delhi.
World Braille Day is observed every year on 4th January
World Braille Day is observed every year in memory of Louis Braille, the inventor of the Braille script. He was born on January 4, 1809.World Braille Day marks the birth anniversary of Louis Braille, the French educator, who invented the Braille system, after being blinded at a young age.World Braille Day is observed to spread awareness about the importance of Braille in communication.
Apple becomes first US company to hit $3 trillion market value
Apple Inc on January 3 became the first US company to hit $3 trillion in market capitalization.On the first day of trading in 2022, the company’s shares hit a record of $182.88 in mid-day trading.The world’s most valuable company is the first to reach the milestone.Tim Cook is the current CEO of Apple company.Apple shared the $2 trillion market value club with Microsoft Corp.
